Ingredients

  • 220 g yellow moong dal or arhar dal, rinsed
  • 750 ml water
  • 120 g tomato, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 3 g salt, then adjust
  • 15 g ghee or cooking oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 3 garlic cloves, sliced
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander
  • 35 g Mango Pickle

Instructions

  1. 1Pressure-cook the dal with water, tomato, turmeric and salt until soft.
  2. 1Whisk and adjust the consistency with hot water.
  3. 2Finely chop the Mango Pickle pieces and stir them into the simmering dal.
  4. 3Heat ghee, crackle cumin and brown the garlic lightly.
  5. 4Pour the tempering over the dal and simmer for two minutes.
  6. 5Taste before adjusting salt, garnish with coriander and serve.

Recipe notes

Add pickle gradually and taste before adding extra salt because pickle is already seasoned.
